Claims and the record
  • 2024 pardon of Daniel Perry: The day after a jury convicted Daniel Perry of murder at a 2020 Austin protest (April 2023), Abbott asked the Board of Pardons and Paroles for a pardon recommendation; on its unanimous recommendation Abbott granted a full pardon in May 2024. The Court of Criminal Appeals denied the district attorney leave to seek to vacate it (June 2024). Abbott said self-defense law "cannot be nullified by a jury or a progressive District Attorney".
  • 2022 transgender-minor treatment directive: Directed the Department of Family and Protective Services in 2022 to investigate reported gender-transition procedures on children. The Texas Supreme Court (May 2022) lifted a statewide injunction on procedural grounds but kept the block on investigating the family that sued, saying the governor and attorney general were within their rights to state their views but the agency was not compelled to follow them. In April 2026 it ended the remaining injunctions without deciding whether such treatment is child abuse. No response found.
  • Abortion: Pro Abortion
  • Border and immigration: ICE: "Detaining and deporting people who have been in our communities for 20 years. Law-abiding, hard-working. That's not making us safer."
  • State Income Tax – favored a state income tax in 2016 interview, voted against Bill to prevent an income tax, now as a candidate for Governor says she is against a state income tax.
  • Guns: National Rifle Association has rated her 0%. She voted against Second Amendment Sanctuary Bill blocking enforcement of certain new federal gun laws; and Bill that barred state contracts with companies that discriminate against the gun industry.
  • Law Enforcement: Labeled a “defund-the-police radical,” – no votes on Bill penalizing cities that cut police budgets, and Bill limiting personal-recognizance bonds for some offenses. Voted against the sanctuary-city crackdown and against a proposed constitutional amendment denying bail to immigrants charged with serious crimes.
Claims and the record
  • 2025 quorum-break fine: Fined $8,354.25 by the House Administration Committee (April 2026) for the August 2025 quorum break. The Texas Supreme Court denied the attorney general's petition to remove her (May 2026). She denied abandoning her office; no response on the fine was found.
  • Abortion: Tries to have it both ways – Pro Life and Pro Abortion
  • Border and immigration: Part of an effective immigration policy.
  • Guns: "I will be open minded while defending the rights of law-abiding Texans to defend themselves, hunt, compete, collect, and enjoy other peaceful uses of firearms"
  • Public schools and vouchers: For Vouchers for every child
  • Property taxes: “spending cuts first, which will lead to lower taxes."
